As you recall, this 8th grade battle of cross-town rivals has an A, B and 5th quarter segments. Annually, I award game balls to the smallest roster editor player on each team. The award is referred to as “The Biggest Dog” award, where I reference Mark Twain’s famous quote, “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the heart in the dog.”
Both teams and coaches meet at the 50 yard line after the game, where I share a sportsmanship message and pride in the community that boasts 2 strong teams.
